New M3: 4.0-liter V-8

The new engine will put out about 420 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That's 77 horsepower and 33 lb-ft more than the the old M3. It weighs 33 lbs less than the previous M3's inline-six due to the use of lightweight components including an aluminum-silicon crankcase, aluminum pistons, single-piece aluminum heads, and a short forged crankcase.

Having a compression ratio of 12:1 and redlining 8,300 RPM, this engine will be the highest-revving mass-production V-8 on the market.
