525i 6cyl to a 8cyl can it be done?

I have a 1990 525i 6cyl and wanted more HP. Can I swap my 6cyl for an 8cyl and if so what model would give me the best cross match without and costly modifications? Any recommendations on shops I can go to to get this done?
