A/C Problems on BMW M3 1998 sedan

Hi anyone
I am having problems with my a/c. On my BMW M3 1998 sedan.It turns on and of by itself. It turns on but I can not ajust it or when it is of it lets hot air in from somewhere. I need help to narrow my search down to one or two components. I would appreciate the help.
