I have a modified 2000 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T. I was recently driving around 120mph on the freeway when suddenly my check engine light poped up. I was wondering if this could've been caused because i still had it in 4th gear? The Scary Thought would be if it's a serious problem, how expensive will the repair cost. Any idea what could be wrong with my engine? Since then I have only driven it about 25 miles.

What rpm and for how long? It could be the ubiquitous 1.8T sludge problem. European Car magazine , in its current Morch '08 issue proclaimed the 1.8T to be one of the 10 best turbo engines of all time. "one of the most flexible tuneable and reliable units......an example of what Audi does best." Someone failed to tell them of the sludge problem. I am amazed that they do not advise their readers of the bad as well as the good. Your dealer will tell you its a bad sensor. If you beleive him and continue to drive the car it is very possible your engine will seize up. There is an extended eight year engine replacement warranty IF you can verify every oil change was performed , from day one ,using the recommended lubricant. There are many lawsuits against VW/Audi for sludge related seizures with the 1.How many miles on the engine?8T European Car does a disservice to its readership by lauding the virtues of an engine without explaining its negatives. well my engine was rebuilt at 106,000 miles and now it has around 20 thousand... more or less. da rpm was around 40x100. but with all da upgrades da engine has it actually redlines at 70x100 instead of 50x100. also i forgot to mention that i need to do da tune up... it seriously needs an oil change. do you think that could be it????? thanx 4 da reply!!!!
