is there an alternative to paying almost $500. to replace a defective seat belt with the airbag sensor? i don't know how a dealer can stay in business charging such outrageous prices compared to toyota or honda

yes - get one from a salvage yard and install it your self-don't forget to remove the drivers seat to get to the sensor!

I would suggest to go to your car dealer and get it fixed as it gives you the best quality and the guarantee too. Nothing harm in paying more when u get the best out of it.
