GL gas engine convertion to TDI clean diesel?

Hello there,
I am new to your forum and I have been wondering about swapping the engine of the my VW Eurovan GL '93 to a TDI diesel. I have been searching all over the internet and I have gotten no answer yet. The thing is I love my van and use it a lot; however. i am get tired of visiting the shop every couple of months. Does anyone know how this could happen? Isit posible in US?

To effectively deal with these emissions components, the industry will introduce new oxidation converters, exhaust particulate traps, and enhanced EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). In addition, improved electronic fuel injection control and more responsive turbochargers will work in concert with engine mechanical design changes to reduce emissions.
