Im relatively new to the world of european cars and was hoping i could find some guidance on the project I am about to undertake.  I recently purchased a 2001 audi a4 with the 2.8 liter 30 valve v6 with a 5 speed manual and quattro all wheel drive system. What i would like to do is swap the engine for a 2.7 liter bi-turbo and was curious as to whether or not it would be a simple modifaction or if it would require extensive fabrication. My goal is to create a vehicle that will be able to compete with a Subaru STI or a Mitsubishi Evo, but will retain the european mark of luxury and engineering.

Ok well essentially the audi s4 (which is what came with the 2.7 biturbo) is the same as an audi a4 except for a wider wheel base, wider body and longer front end.

So basically, keeping all of that in mind, The only thing you would really have to do is widen out the dog house (front end) using s4 parts and some a4 parts, possible have to cut the fenders and re-weld with rear from a4 and front from s4, and either get an s4 subframe or cut your 2.8 motor mounts off and re-weld some 2.7 biturbo mounts onto your subframe.

If you look in your engine bay, you will see that there is barely enough room to stick a tooth pick in it. With all of the work and hassle that you would put up with completing this swap, i think it would be easier and less stressful and more economical to just go buy an audi s4. There is one for sale in Cincinatti, Ohio for 13k that is already tuned with k04 turbos pushing around 425 hp.

Hope this helps,
