my 04 jetta 2.0l suggestions

i got a 04 jetta 2.0l a couple months back. i love this car but it is too slow so i was thinking of upgrading it.it is currently stock except for the wheels and atraight pipe.since you guys are the experts can you suggest me what i can do to it that will result in higher power.i dont want to go over the border with money.im only looking into spending 4-5 thousand dollars on it. i really want to turbo it up but i heard that its expensive for a 2.0l. any advice is welcome
