whats the best engine swap for an Mk2 jetta?

I'm somewhat new to the topic of car tuning and I currently own an 8v 1.8L Mk2. I've heard, read, and researched almost everything there is about tuning a car and found out that its popular doing an engine swap. But I'm wondering what engine swap would be best, be a little budgetable, but offer good performance and power at the same time. Heard that VR6s have a good stock performance and power , 1.8Ts have about the same but can be somewhat modified less expensively and I don't know much about the 2.0s. Willing to learn something from anybody and will gladly accept opinions and advice
