BBS Wheel Logo Cap installation problems

I have bought four replacement logo caps for my wheels and the guy who sold them to me said that the part number on the underside of the logo cap he sold me differs from the original because the ones he sold me replace the ones I currently have, as the previous part number no longer exists.
Orginals - 09.24.036
Replacements - 09.23.221
They measure the same as far as I can tell, but for the life of me, I cannot get them on the center cap. I have tried a soft mallet, screwing them in (ridiculous, I know)and pushing as hard as I can by hand. No luck. The old ones will pop right in.
Any tips, tricks, or ideas floating around out there?
